Korg Synth Started in 1962
The Korg Synthesizer was invented and evolved by Japanese musical instrument maker, Korg. Korg was founded in 1962 and has been making instruments, starting with an electric mechanical type of rhythm machine in 1962. Later on in the 1960s, Korg began making keyboards and the firstKorg Synthesizer (the MiniKorg) was invented in 1973. From that point forward, the Korg Synthesizer product line really took off. The company divided itself into two instruments divisions for both hobbyists and professionals. Korg made over 10 new synthesizer keyboards per decade from the late 1970’s through today and is still going strong. Korg is also credited in 1979 with making what is considered the best clone of a Hammond B3 organ ever made, with its Korg CX-3. In the 80s and 90s, when digital synthesizers really took off, Korg also became very good at making Arranger Keyboards. The Korg i3, invented in 1993, was an enhanced version of the popular X3 Korg Synthesizer models. The i-Series Korg arrangers are equipped with the same great sounds of the professional line of Korg Synthesizers, but with many musical accompaniment patterns, styles and 16-Track sequencer. The Korg Arrangers are arguably among the first arranger keyboards that offered a musical experience whose professional level was not compromised by the bells and whistles of other amateur, accompaniment keyboards. The Korg Synthesizer professial line later evolved into the notable names like the Prophecy, Trinity, Triton, OASYS and MicroKorg. Korg’s most recent release is a software application for the iPad called, the iElectribe, a programmable, electric beat maker. Thanks to it’s long, successful history, there is a Korg Synthesizer model that will fit just about anybody’s budget and/or needs. If you want the latest in digital synth technology, check out the models from 2005 forward. If you want to get started in synths, but don’t want to spend more than $300, check out the models from 1993 – 1999, like the X3 Korg Synthesizer.
